Want to add a little more power?? Who doesn't??
We are not sure how much extra this air cleaner adds but Seat Of The Pants
(SOTP) riding tells the story. Unfortunately the nearest motorcycle dyno is 100 miles away so for now it is SOTP
otherwise we would give you the real figures.

here to see one owner's dyno setup for an increase of
Almost 6-HP and 6-lbs-ft of Torque gain)
A little re-tuning may well be needed.
Why our air cleaner costs more than others. Click

Designed specifically for the Honda Shadow VLX600
SINGLE-carb model year 1999 and later ONLY.
Our Air Cleaner and J. Sunday's (JChop76) Black Bobber. Thanks for the picture of the cool looking ride. |

The backing plate and main cover are triple-plate chromed steel for long lasting
looks.
It is over 5" in diameter and 2" deep. It includes a washable and reusable stock Uni-filter that will
breath way more air than the VLX600 can ever demand. |
| |
|
| |
The filter we supply requires the addition of oil before
it is used.
The filter manufacturer suggests using their
oil kit but we have had good success using ordinary automotive oil instead. The call is yours, but if you click here, you can see the cleaning and oiling procedures we use here.
If you feel more comfortable using the filter
manufacturer's oil then you will need to purchase their oiling kit. Most motorcycle dealers stock the uni-filter
oil kit for around 12-bucks.
If you are in any doubt, then please use the filter manufacturer's
recommendations that came with your filter. |

|
| |
It has a triple-plate chromed perforated steel around the outside of the Uni-filter
to keep out rocks and small birds.
The integrated mounting bracket makes sure it stays put.
We have included a hose fitting for the hose from the Crankcase Breather
Separator tank that is up under the front of the gas tank. Most after market air cleaners leave this out.
We do it right or we do not put our name on it. |

From the front you get to see more of the carb but that is a small price to pay for the increase in performance
and the cool look from the side. |

Here's a shot of the air cleaner mounting bracket and vent
pipe for the stock crankcase breather.
We provide all the hardware to make this a solid reliable mount that attaches to the carburetor. Be careful of cheap air cleaners that do not physically attach to the carburetor
body as they will eventually wear the rubber boot to a point where it will allow dust and dirt past the seal. |

NOTE!
We offer NO advice or suggestions for jetting or tuning when this is installed on your bike. We believe it will
work OK with after-market jet kits but there are way too many different configurations and options for us to know
what you may have on your bike.
If in doubt about jetting and tuning, click
here to read our return policy. Talk to your
dealer or mechanic and check Internet newsgroups for assistance. There are many, many people out there that know
way more about jetting and tuning than we do. We are engineers and machinists, not motorcycle tuners.
In an attempt to help with the re-tuning of your motorcycle, we have added a page with setups that have been submitted
by other VLX600 owners and riders.
We thank them very much for helping their fellow
VLX'ers and you can see this information by clicking
here.
Please note. Because the information on the Jetting page
is a result of submissions from other people, we canNOT add any further information or help on jetting.
We offer the information on the Jetting page in good faith, and as a suggestion or starting point ONLY.
We have no way of knowing if they will suit your VLX600 engine or not. |

Please NOTE!
As with all open-type air cleaners, heavy rain
may not be your best friend. We don't get a lot of rainfall here so testing in the rain is not a real option. What
we did do, was to spray the right side of the motor with a garden hose with a multi-hole sprinkler head and wetted
it down for five minutes. We then started the bike up, and continued to run it at various throttle settings. It seemed to work fine under those conditions.
We have since had a report of zero problem riding
on a Freeway
in a downpour that lasted for about 20 minutes in San Antonio Texas.
Based on that and the garden hose it looks very
promising for extreme wet weather use. |

16 oz UNI oil. This contains much
more oil than the aerosol, but when
using it, there will an amount of oil
wasted after saturating and then
squeezing out the excess.
|
| |
The filter element MUST be oiled BEFORE use and regularly
thereafter. While we have had good results using automotive oil, there can be no better solution than the oil made
and supplied by the company that makes the filter element. Both options are good for many, many changes AND at just
5-bucks it's a steal PLUS good insurance for your expensive engine parts. |

Good Vibrations...
|
|
These bikes vibrate really freely so a thread lock agent
is not a luxury, it should be mandatory every time you assemble things on any Motorcycle.
This bottle will last for a long time considering it only
takes a drop on the threads to make it stick. We can't tell you how many drops there are in the bottle, but it
MUST be a LOT!!
We stock the Red and Blue
thread lock.
(Actual threadlock supplied may differ from items
shown here)
|
Red
is the strongest and if applied correctly, it requires about 250+ degree heat to loosen. We have had success using
a hair dryer for this purpose when disassembling. A paint
stripping
heat gun could also be used,
BUT
great care must be exercised so you DO NOT DAMAGE paint
in the same area, as these guns can get to 900 degrees
and more. |
| Blue
is for frequently disassembled parts and only requires normal tools and a little extra pressure to loosen. Often
though oil and water can degrade the locking strength a little and that's why we also offer the Red
as it has a much stronger grip, but requires more effort to remove it when you need to. |
