What the hell is THAT??

Mastercard and Visa have a verification number on them called the Card Validation Code or CVC for short.

This is a 3-digit number printed on the signature strip, where you sign your name on the back of the Credit Card.

Often there is more than one number on this strip, but the CVC is the 3-digit number at the right-hand end of all of the numbers on the signature strip.

This number is unique to that card and thus anyone trying to use just your credit card number without having the card, will probably not have access to this number.
